Lectures and Workshops

Below are the spinning lectures and workshops that I currently offer. Stay up to date with the latest schedules by signing up for my newsletter.

If you are interested in a topic not on the list, please contact me and we can discuss further.

In-Person Group Classes/Workshops

Up to 10 students – 3 hrs

My signature class. I will explain supported spindle and bowl styles, fiber and preparation, starting the spinning, spinning and drafting strategies, and plying. Following a brief lecture, we’ll start spinning! Fiber is covered by your class fee; bring your favorite supported spindle and bowl. I will have more spindles to sample as time permits. Prior spinning experience (whether on wheels or suspended spindles) is required for this class. Per student rate is negotiable, plus $12/student for class kit.

Previously taught at Shenandoah Valley Fiber Fest (multiple years) and MD Alpaca and Fleece Festival (2023), as well as other LYS-hosted and self-hosted sessions.

Up to 20 students – 3 hrs

A forum for more advanced supported spinners looking to troubleshoot specific problems with their practice. This session has no set agenda since we focus as a group on how to help each other level up our supported spinning. Please note: this is NOT a beginner-level forum. Participants must have demonstrated prior experience with supported spinning. Per student rate is negotiable.

Virtual Group Lectures

1.5 hr lecture with show and tell, plus .5 hr Q&A. In this lecture, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages to supported spinning, compared to spinning with a wheel or suspended spindle; a basic discussion of spindle types; and what fiber pairs best with this spinning style. $200 **NOTE: I can compress the time to 60 or 90 minutes if needed—for instance, for a guild presentation—however I struggle to stop talking about supported spinning once I get started!

2.5 hr lecture with show and tell, plus .5 hr Q&A. This lecture provides a technical deep-dive into factors to consider when choosing a supported spindle and bowl; supported spindle characteristics; how spindles interact with bowls; and how different spindle types impact the yarn being spun. $300

Previously taught at MSWF Winterfest 2025

Online Courses

Does this sound familiar? You want to craft custom yarns using supported spindles, or find your “zen” in this meditative practice, but you find yourself overwhelmed by the spindle varieties, wasting money on spindles you don’t love, unhappy with the yarn you created, suffering ergonomic issues, particularly pain in the shoulders, neck and upper back, or struggling to enjoy supported spinning with the spindle you have? I can help!

Virtual One-on-One Instruction

$50/hr. Sessions are currently limited to Sunday afternoons. I will update this page with the link to book appointments when times become available.

Appropriate for someone with little prior experience. The “Supported Spinning Bootcamp in a Bag” class kit is recommended for students at this level; you may wish to book the lesson a week or two in advance to provide time for the class kit to arrive.

Troubleshooting sessions for spinners who have some experience, but find themselves unhappy with their technique or the yarn they produce. Coaching can also include ergonomics, fiber prep, fine tuning spindle and bowl choices, or other topics to help a confident supported spinner reach the next level.
